Introducing Mr & Mrs Kooki

Introducing Mr &Amp; Mrs Kooki 1

La Kooki Wines. Local. Knowledge.

Mrs Kooki is homegrown in the south west Capes region of Western Australia. With a degree in horticulture and a growing passion for winemaking, she entered the industry in 1995, cut her teeth at Cape Mentelle Vineyards and decided to study oenology in South Australia where she met GG. Glenn Goodall crossed the Tasman from New Zealand to Port Macquarie, NSW, in 1989 to catch up with the whanau and started working in a vineyard, which transitioned into a vintage job, cutting his teeth at Cassegrain Wines. Glenn then travelled doing vintages in Bordeaux and Stellenbosch, returning to Port Macquarie via Western Australia, where his love for Margaret River set seed. Studying oenology in South Australia he met Mrs Kooki. They eloped to Lake Tahoe, Nevada, during the 1997 vintage in California and began La Kooki’s journey.

There are few places in the world where you can have your cake and eat it: family, surfing and winemaking. After working vintages overseas an opportunity to come back to Margaret River was too good to refuse. Mrs Kooki joined CMV’s team and Glenn soon started at Xanadu Wines, his love for Margaret River cemented. As our family grew to five Mrs Kooki, after working for Fonty’s Pool Vineyard and Curtin University, started consulting in 2013. Glenn is still at Xanadu Wines kicking goals with the team.

With shared passions for growing grapes and making wine, the conversation turned to when are we going to do it together? We wanted to create something of our own. Glenn was always keen to do something outside the box. We both wanted to make eminently drinkable wines that were a little bit kooki, drawing on our combined wealth of experience and long relationships with fantastic growers in Western Australia.

Our m.o. became ‘opportunity, locality and personality’, capturing true expressions of unique sites, keeping production small and building on the local knowledge we have gathered and shared over the past 25 years.

La Kooki Wines was born in 2017 when, as opportunity would have it, great relationships and amazing fruit grown in unique locations came into our hands.

Since that time Glenn has been nominated for Halliday’s Australian Winemaker of the Year twice, winning it in 2023.
