La Kooki is on La List.
The much anticipated, and best-selling, Halliday Wine Companion 2024 by James Halliday has hit bookstores and we are over the moon to have two of our La Kooki wines included in this year’s list.
Led by respected wine critic and vigneron James Halliday AM, editor at large, the Halliday Wine Companion is the work of a dedicated team of wine authorities, who collectively taste more than 9,000 wines each year.
Reviewed by the esteemed Jane Faulkner, our 2022 Rosé Blonde and 2021 Las Piedras Tempranillo both made the Companion with scores in the 90s.
On the Rosé Blonde, which scored 95, Jane said “A rosé-blonde hue. Fragrant with raspberries and wild strawberries with a dusting of spice. The palate is lively and while a fine thread of acidity teases out the aforementioned fruit profile, it is savoury. Tangy, juicy, slightly creamy and deliciously dry”.
Jane said the Tempranillo, scoring 90, was full of body – “While it has an element of rawness and firmness, time should fix that. Underneath it’s all dark fruits, red cherries and cola plus loads of exotic spices. It is a savoury wine with stealth-like tannins that kick in at the end…”
With a wine career spanning over 50 years, James Halliday is an unmatched authority on all aspects of the wine industry, and for more than 30 years, was among the most senior and active wine judges in Australia.
In 2010 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his services to the wine industry. James has written or contributed to over 80 books on wine since 1970 and has written a weekly wine column for Australian newspapers since 1978.
The esteemed Halliday Companion Tasting Team is made up of eight other panellists, including chief editor Campbell Mattinson. Each authority is responsible for reviewing the wines from specific regions around the country, which allows for continuity, connection and specialist expertise.
The Halliday Wine Companion 2024 by James Halliday is available at all leading bookstores and retailers around Australia and online.
